This electrical safety toolbox talk explains why the GFCI is the one piece of protection between ordinary tool power and a very bad day. It's written to be read aloud at the start of a shift; with the discussion, it runs about five minutes.

The talk, ready to read
On a jobsite, receptacle power for tools runs through GFCI protection: the little breaker that trips in a fraction of a second when current leaks somewhere it shouldn't, like through you.
Wet conditions, damaged cords, and metal-cased tools are how ordinary 120-volt power kills. A GFCI catches the leak before your heart notices. No GFCI, no tool. It's that simple, whether it's built into the panel, a pigtail, or the cord.
Cords take a beating: pulled around block corners, run over, doors closed on them. Look at what you plug in. A cord with the ground pin snapped off or the jacket sliced open is done. Cut the plug off so nobody borrows it back into service.
Damp work means more caution, not more hurry: dry hands, dry gloves, tools rated for the conditions.

The rule behind this talk
29 CFR 1926.404(b)(1) requires ground-fault circuit interrupters (or an assured equipment grounding conductor program) for the 120-volt, 15- and 20-ampere receptacle outlets construction crews plug tools into when those outlets aren't part of a building's permanent wiring. This talk is practice guidance to go with the standard, not a substitute for it.
