Formula: rate = (cases × 200,000) ÷ hours worked. 200,000 = 100 full-time workers' annual hours, so rates compare fairly across company sizes. GCs typically want TRIR & DART for the last 1–3 years; your EMR (experience modification rate) comes from your workers' comp insurer, not this math.

What's a "good" TRIR?

It varies by industry — compare against your industry's BLS average rather than a universal number. Many GCs flag subs above roughly 3.0, but their thresholds differ; ask the GC what they screen on. Current BLS benchmarks and a worked example: how to calculate TRIR.

TRIR vs DART vs EMR?

TRIR counts all recordable cases. DART counts only the more serious subset (days away, restricted, or transferred). EMR is an insurance multiplier computed by your workers' comp carrier from claims history — related, but a different animal.
